Does anyone know how to get subtitles for tv shows, I can get the movies to work.

Go to the settings of the addon that you use and turn on subtitles setting..

This is probably a stupid question bit what addon is thetvapp in?

TV Shows and Live TV are different.

Not sure if you can get the CC to work on the TVApp addon in the TV Guide section (Xenon plus build). I have not seen that work yet. I dont see an option to turn on CC.

But I can get CC directly from thetvapp.to website using a browser. In the settings area while viewing you can turn on CC. I use TV Bro as my browser.

Tvapp also has a url for TiVimate and other apps as well. It has an EPG as well.

No problem. This is only my personal experiences. I am not a developer here. They may know how to get CC on the addon.
