I did mention the issues
Ill say it again
First off im considering an external ssd to use maybe that will help and fix issues
My issues are this. When streaming a 20 or so gb file stranger things 4k file it lags and stutters
When my girl watches some shows during the day and i come in after and go to stream a 60 or so or plus gb 4k hdr atmos file it will struggle to play if it does and then just crashes
Kodi closes and goes back to shield home
I did notice i have 500-600 mbs free memory on sheild
On my phone i have 3 times that and never any issue
Maybe the ssd external drive will improve and resolve issues
The only things ive done in shield developer were increase the speed options for toggling between shield apps
This kodi crashing has been a newer thing since chefs last 2 or so xenon updates

I really dont know what to advise. Maybe check if IPV6 is on in Shield settings/Network settings. Maybe try disabling hardware acceleration in Kodi settings/Video. Or you can rule out anything to do with the build and clear Kodi data. Install only the addon you use and test the same show and see if you still have the same issue.

OK, let’s back up a minute. Who am I speaking with? Is this the chef and creator of this build?

I’ve been over the disabling hardware acceleration over the years and maybe a long time ago it helped but it seems to cause bad issues messing with that stuff

:grin
i’m gonna try an external hard drive fast one and adjust the catching settings. I’ve already adjusted catching and seeing progress. My free memory has increased a good amount.

You were being helped by The Chef 👨‍🍳. It's like you were dealing directly with God.

Why are you trying to watch 40-80gb 4K content? Do you have an Atmos home theater and need the audio? If not, first try smaller files and see if you have the same issues. Don't go adding external storage yet. Resolve the crashing first.

This is not like it's paid tech support. Be patient if you don't get immediate responses.

Try to close all background open apps. Double click the circle button on your remote, tab down and click X to close all apps. You may have to do this a few times. Then reboot the shield and try watching a smaller content file size.

Also uninstall some apps which you don't use.

Instead of directly watching a new show/movie after your girl, reboot the shield and then try.

OK, I apologize duly noted all of this. I’ve done and tried and yes I am utilizing Atmos home theater system, but I’ve always wonder. Is there a difference between a 20 gig file versus a 60 80 or 100?
I could still get Atmos 4K and HDR with a lower gigabyte file. I just worry about it being cut or something. I always wondered the difference in file size.
The point is this crashing is a new issue
you think it’s only happening with the last build update or two and it’s very inconveniencing. I don’t wanna have to constantly clear and restart stuff.
do you do any of that or constantly

You said you play the same content on your phone and no issues. So the problem is not the build. The builder is saying you don't need advanced settings. If I were you, I would do a fresh start.

I keep my device lean and clean. Close all background, previously opened apps. Reboot often.

I had a 1TB adopted storage external SSD and that was giving me issues. Migrating data back to internal storage was even more problematic. My issue was the shield would crash.

If you do add storage get something that's fast and recommended and compatible with the shield. Don't go above 500gb.

The larger file size content usually has several audio formats packed in. What AVR are u using? How many channels/speakers?

Understood and thank you for for this. I just updated my home theater system from Samsung Q80r soundbar to Sonos full ultimate system. I’ve been using the highest channel in kodo audio 7.1. I have set up my external storage. It’s 500 GB and fast it is reflecting in summary system info and I think I’m seeing improvement already Smoother and faster better performance. I’ll keep an eye and see how it goes.
